Tell Governor Carney and your legislators that “14 Is Fair for Direct Care.”

What should i say?

  • I’m calling regarding full funding for the McNesby Act.

  • The state is underfunding programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by an estimated $42.3 million per year.

  • We're asking for $14 million for FY 2020.

  • Additional funding is important. Hundreds of adults with disabilities have elderly parents - when these parents are gone their children could be institutionalized, which will cost the start $325,000 per person per year.

  • Direct Support Professionals do heroic work for low pay. This leads to high employee turnover, which can lead to substandard care, which could lead to tragedy.

  • Better-trained staff that stays on the job longer will result in better care and a safer environment for adults with I/DD, and help prevent costly hospitalizations and institutionalizations.
